I’d fit in well in ‘Dirty work’

June 8th, 2009

I want nothing more than to be friends with Mitch Buchanan.

We would have so much fun. First, we'd hide dead fish in people's houses. Then we'd pull the movie line trick - one person moons the movie line while the other drives and honks. And to finish we'd stage the most daring portrayal of Don Giovanni you've ever seen.

Breakfast at the Hancock Building overlooking Lake Michigan and dinner at Twin Peaks watching the sun set into the Pacific Ocean.

I'd like the best of these two worlds at my fingertips.

Chill out with some Eggers, yah?

I actually don't know that this is a good lazy read at all. In fact, I would venture to guess it's not. But I do want to read it and what better time than the present, right? Right.

I like to relax with a hammock

I find a nice beach and then I post up on a hammock.

Lonely Hammock

Maximum relaxation is achieved if there's a bar serving up mai tais around. Also ideally it's very sunny and hot.

It’s my family’s signature daiquiri drink. It really is killa.

Dolores Park is a great people-watching spot

Between the hipsters, cats, dogs, hippies, yuppies, yoga, dancing and lawn sprawling, there's plenty to keep me interested.

If only Chicago, IL were closer to San Francisco, CA

May 15th, 2009

These are my two favorite cities in the US. If only they could be right next to each other.

Then I could chill with all my homies at once. I could wake up in the morning and run along lake shore drive then spend my evening in Dolores Park.

Jose Cuervo by Shelly West

I grew up thinking that Jose Cuervo was a person. I also associated him with a cat since my cousins had a cat named Cuervo. So Jose Cuervo was a cat man in my mind. This was one of my favorite songs when I was younger and I would sing it all the time.

Some time in the past few years I revisited Shelly West's jam and discovered that the lyrics (which I remembered in their entirety) may be slightly odd for a child to traipse around singing. "Did I kiss all the cowboys, did I shoot out the lights? Did I dance on the bar, did I start any fights?" Jose Cuervo you are a friend of mine.

Give It Away by Red Hot Chili Peppers

Yet another song I listened to and loved in childhood (along with "Suck My Kiss" from the same album). At the tender age of nine I was thoroughly convinced that one day the exotic man with long girly hair named Anthony Kiedis would be my husband. And so I ran around singing "Give it Away Now" as if I really knew what it meant.

John Wayne Gacy Jr. by Sufjan Stevens

The first time I ever heard this song, my cousin said "This song is about killing people. But it's more than that. It's also about molesting them." And I thought to myself… this is some fucked up shit.

But later I discovered my cousin was right. It's more than that. It's also a beautiful song. (disregard meaning of lyrics and listen).
